Dvorak String Quartet no.12 “American”
Ligeti String Quartet no.1, ‘Metamorphoses nocturnes’
Tchaikovsky String Quartet no.1

With playing so precise and expressive that it has been described as ‘a miracle of unified thought’ (La Presse, Montreal), the Calidore Quartet is one to watch. In the same year that they became a BBC New Generation Artist, they made headlines when they became the Grand-Prize winner at the 2016 M-Prize International Chamber Music Competition, the largest prize for chamber music in the world. Their folk-inspired programme takes us from the soulfulness of Dvorˇák’s ‘American’ Quartet, through the striking originality of Ligeti’s ‘Metamorphoses nocturnes’ to the unabashed lyricism of Tchaikovsky’s First Quartet, a work so beautiful that it is said to have moved Leo Tolstoy to tears.
