Due to family illness Mark Padmore has regrettably had to withdraw from  his appearance with the Britten Sinfonia this Friday.  At short notice, the orchestra are delighted to announce that the fine young baritone Roderick Williams will be the replacement soloist.

Roderick has worked with many orchestras throughout Europe, including all the BBC orchestras in the UK, and his many festival appearances include the BBC Proms, Edinburgh, Cheltenham and Aldeburgh. He has an extensive discography and his recordings of English song with Iain Burnside have received particular acclaim.

Britten Sinfonia mine the rich seam of Viennese music in this evening of diverse works by composers from the Austrian capital. Moving from the glimmering joie de vivre of Schubert’s German Dances to the breadth and eloquence of Mahler’s captivating Rückert-Lieder and the chamber-scale intimacies of Webern’s Five Movements for String Quartet, the programme showcases the astonishing versatility of Britten Sinfonia and the communicative brilliance of one of our leading tenors.

Pre-concert talk with Roderick Williams and Patrick Dickie at 6.15pm. Free to ticket holders

This performance will finish at approximately 9.30pm.
