Frisky and Mannish
Thursday 23 – Friday 24 May, 10pm
Frisky and Mannish have been described as “popmusicy-seriocomic-mashparodic-stereophonic-LOUD-vaudevillian-sketchcabaret-throwbackcurrent-oldfangled-newfashioned-bapsbotty-infotainment.”
Or, to be succinct, they tit around with pop songs.
The musical comedy cabaret duo (aka Laura Corcoran and Matthew Floyd Jones) stormed the Edinburgh Fringe with their sell-out debut show School of Pop in 2009. Since meeting at Oxford University the pair have taken their unique brand of twisted pop to festivals around the world.
Now they bring their new show Extra Curricular Activities to Norwich. A no-holds-barred, full-throttle, take-no-prisoners hit of F&M, featuring classic F&M staples such as Kate Bash, Carpenters Grime, Bee Gees’ Rude Boy, Beep and Stalker Medley; alongside new material looking at Caggie Dunlop and Millie Mackintosh from Made in Chelsea, how Lana Del Rey met her mentor, which techniques help Kelly Clarkson construct such deep introspective lyrics, and why Dannii Minogue has been a great help to Gotye.
“Such glittering panache… the atmosphere is more redolent of a flashy turn by Lady Gaga than your average comedy club night.” Telegraph
Performance runs: c. 60 minutes (no interval)
“Unerringly sharp and upbeat from start to finish, this is a gold-star masterclass in the mechanics and semantics of pop” Mail on Sunday
