Ideas of Flight is devised and directed by Sian Croose and Jonathan Baker

The hundred–strong Voice Project in Norwich Cathedral has become an annual Festival highlight. Andy Sheppard and Trio Zéphyr join again this year for a choral song-cycle inspired by birds in flight.

The libretto is sourced from selected poems by the likes of Maura Dooley, David Morley, Andrew Motion, Don Paterson and Katrina Porteous. Flight is imagined as sound, with voices exploring the experience of the solo traveller and the flock: lifting and drifting, looping and rolling. Relive the sensation of flight in dreams and leave the atmosphere altogether.

Performance runs c.75 minutes (no interval)

Presented in association with the RSPB

Commissioned by The Voice Project and the Norfolk & Norwich Festival

“Here are the sky-nails they asked you for So long ago and this their purpose, in fixing our eyes to the heavens a moment the heart lifts.” From Starling Roost by Maura Dooley
