Sunday 10 May
Born in Ethiopia, raised in the U.S. and nurtured by San Francisco’s richly diverse arts scene, Meklit Hadero’s musical influences range wide – from the jazz and soul favourites she grew up on, to the hip-hop and art-rock she loves. ‘Meklit has perfected a folky/jazzy style – a mix of Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones and Nina Simone’ (Chicago Sun-Times). First seen in England as part of the Southbank Centre’s Women of the World Festival, she is passionate about challenging preconceptions about women and her African roots.
Performance runs: c. 90 mins (no interval)
