Beethoven Symphony No. 5 Op. 67 in C minor

Thomas Adès conducts Beethoven’s ever-popular fifth symphony alongside the poignant fourth and Gerald Barry’s Piano Concerto.

Thomas Adès and Britten Sinfonia return to Norfolk & Norwich Festival, following their sell-out performance of Beethoven’s Symphonies 1 & 2 in 2017. Their journey through Beethoven’s symphonies sees them perform the perennially popular, vivacious Symphony No 5 and the subdued, poignant Symphony No 4. Adès and the orchestra interpret and illuminate these monuments of the orchestral repertoire, alongside the inventive music of Irish composer, Gerald Barry. The concert features Barry’s Piano Concerto written specially for, and performed by acclaimed pianist, Nicolas Hodges.

'Every bar of each symphony seemed thrillingly restored, honed down to their muscular core' The Guardian on performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 & 2

'This promises to be one of the most exciting Beethoven cycles of the decade, a dose of Viagra to these familiar warhorses. Simply unmissable!' BachTrack on year one of the symphony cycle

Pre-concert talk 6.30pm Nicolas Hodges discusses Gerald Barry’s Piano Concerto (free to ticket holders)
