Bach Solo Cello Suite no.6

Bach’s solo cello suites need no introduction. For Steven Isserlis, they are ‘works of such total perfection, such sublimity, that it is well-nigh impossible to feel ready for them’. Ten years on from his landmark recording of the Suites, Isserlis has made them his own, finding an immersive narrative arc that takes the listener on a compelling musical journey. They are interleaved here with Kurtag’s own solo cello miniatures, whose startling modernity and fragmented landscapes throw these elegant masterpieces into sharp relief.

Performance runs: c. 1 hr 55 mins (including interval)
