Festival Launch 2018!

This is a past event which has now ended.

This year’s Festival opens in spectacular style as carnivalesque drummers take over the streets and larger than life singing dolls transform Norwich city centre into a fantastical open air opera house.

Transe Express have delighted audiences around the world. Join the parade and be awed by the astonishing aerial finale of this musical celebration for the whole family.

If you are attending David McAlmont presents Billie Holiday or Songs of the Sea just before this event, you will be able to enjoy the Launch. NNF staff will be outside the respective venues to direct you to where to join the parade.

Important information

Duration: c. 1 hour 15 minutes

Please note that there is no parking available at Norwich Cathedral.

This is a promenade event along pavements in the City Centre. The procession will cover around 1km / 0.5 miles. The event is expected to last around 75 minutes, of which the final 15-20 minutes will be stationary watching the aerial display.

St Peter’s Street and Gaol Hill will be closed between 9pm and 10.30pm.

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.
